Compression right vs left

Postby ned » Sun Feb 17, 2013 6:00 pm

Hi,

I've been checking the compression on the 76 GL1000 before I keep playing with the ignition and carbs.

After taking cold and warm measurements (open throttle) I've found that there is a 20psi difference between laft and right bank.

1&3 are 170psi and 2&4 are 150psi

Otherwise she goes well but there is an imbalance that can be felt at low revs and high gears. I like to iron out this if possible.
Before I contemplate removing the heads is there anything else that I can do to determine what the problem may be?

Is the valve clearance all the same on all four?
Clearance affects breathing, which affects compression.

Agree. Adjust your valves, then recheck your compression.

Thank you both. Yes, that is the plan, I'll check both sides and compare.
