1978 Goldwing GL1000 engine id.

I have a 1978 GL1000 (new to me) and upon studying both the online service manual from this website and the after market
service manual that came with the bike I was informed that to check the oil I had to peek through a window in the block
to see the lengine oil level. This bike is registered as a 1978 Gold wing but it has a dip stick just front of the left engine guard.
What is up? Does a 78 GL1000 have a dipstick or not?
Thanks for your help in this matter.

It could be a aftermarket add on.....The original did not....The dip stick wasn't added till the 1200 model

He's correct. It's an aftermarket item. Some find them problematic but, if yours isn't leaking and you like it, leave it alone. By the way, change your oil often. You won't have to check it and your GL will like you better.
