Overheating

Postby Glrider » Wed Aug 14, 2013 5:57 pm

Hey everybody.

So my 78 gl1000 starts to heat up while riding under load. If I let off to idle or come to an idle the temperature immediately starts to go down.

Any ideas?

Unstable temperatures are usually associated with a bad thermostat.
However it is normal for the temp to rise to just below the fan kick in temp under a load.
If your fan is also running while driving loaded, replace the thermostat, flush the system, install a new radiator cap and inspect the impeller on the water pump for damaged vanes.
Normal operating temps for the bike are 180*.the fan kicks on at 195*.
