Anybody know if the rubber cover for the drive shaft ujoint on a 76 1000 is available ?

Not new, and I haven't seen any aftermarket after a brief browse on the web. I do see a few used ones on eBay however.

Seen folks run wings with a bare drive-shaft. Not sure how big a deal to not have that cover provided you keep it properly lubed and do not live on a dirt road like I do.

There are bearings in that joint that would not take kindly to being infused with road grit, which is the reason for that rubber cover. I wouldn't expect the joint to last anywhere near as long without the cover in place.

I agree. It has a high load and high speed.
