Help with Wire Connections

Postby ezridermn » Sun Apr 06, 2014 12:26 pm

I have searched around this site and the web and can't find the information I need to answer my question. I am resurrecting a 1977 GL1000. At this point I am trying to connect the front end wires to the wiring harness as they meet under the left side shelter. I have connected the same color wires to the same color wires. So far so good. But there are a number of mismatched wires present. I would appreciate it if you would tell me what wires to connect to what wires. You will find a picture attached that shows the open connections. Note: I replaced the switch that rides on the clutch lever. The wires from that switch are green/yellow and black. I don't know if those are the original colors or not.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I just replaced the switchs on both handlebars sides on my 1977 goldwing and all the wires matched up with the same colors.
I think you may have the wrong switch.

By skimming over the free schematic you can download,I find this info....

Orange..Left turn signal
Black..switched 12 volts..it feeds power to the start switch too.
Green/red...start switch at the clutch lever
Green...goes to the same switch...It's also ground.
Green/yellow...front brake switch
Green/white..goes to the front brake switch too
Black/brown..from the engine stop(kill) switch..It feeds the ignition ballast resistor and the cathode or positive end of the diode in the start circuit
Orange/white....I believe it goes to the fuel sending unit...It should have 7 volts on it with the key on and the sending unit unplugged...touch it to ground and the fuel gauge should go to full....

It allows you to start the bike when it is in gear, if you first pull the clutch lever in.
