got some issues

Postby jwaj2002 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 8:29 pm

I just bought a 77 goldwing at an auction, knew it had issues, well the first one is, whoever had it last unplugged everything under the left cover, several splices, and quite a few cut wires, can someone get me some photos and what plugs where?

second, no starter switch... in fact nothing on the right handlebar but the grip and throttle cable mount

I've got several more parts I have to get like brake assemblies/cables/etc but I want to see about getting it started so I can asses if its worth the cost of getting the rest of the parts and a title

Start by going here and studying the wiring diagram for your GL. Later today, I'll take a picture of the left-side electrical of my '76 and post it for you although, I don't know how much help it will be considering yours is cut up. The right side controls for a '77 are no longer available from Honda. You'll have to find a used one on eBay. (Be careful, the starter switches are often bad.) However, the '76 uses the same assembly and is still available from Honda for about $80. They are the same in appearance and function however, the wire harness is a bit shorter on the '76 (due to bar height) and will have to be lengthen. Many have done it.

The Honda dealer I've noted for you above (http://www.hondabikes.com) consistently has the best on-line prices. Buy from them. Shipping is always a flat $13 so, consider that before ordering only one item. Always check with Honda first prior to buying anything from an eBay reseller (who claim everything is 'NOS'). If Honda shows a price, the part's available. If they show, "Call for Price", it's no longer made.

Here are 4 photos. One showing the entire area and, three more moving from left to right. The only wire that's not factory correct is the red wire with blue connector. It's going to my electronic ignition.

Oh my god that's beautiful. I'll NOT be posting photos of mine!
