Ignition coil compatibility

Postby Briankc43 » Mon Apr 14, 2014 10:09 am

I read in another post that you can use GL1200 coils on a GL1000. I still have points in mine and figure the 1200 has electronic ignition and wouldn't be compatible. Looking for some confirmation, coils ain't cheap and I'm tired of limping around on two cylinders. Thanks.

You can use them, but need to keep resistance close to stock. IMO it is cheaper to use gl1500 coils. You can get three for cheap. They're newer and much like 1200 coils. If you go electronic, you can skip the resistor I think. Check the manual, but I think you need about a 2 ohm resistor to get you to stock level of 5 ohms.
