Final Drive flange

Postby portugeezer » Tue May 27, 2014 9:40 pm

Does anyone know how to remove the final drive flange from the wheel? I'm replacing my back wheel and it came with the flange removed. I've spent hours trying to pry it out. I have no idea how it comes off. Thanks for any help!

"The drive flange has pins (30mm long?) that slide into bushings in the wheel hub. It may be stuck but there aren't any fasteners and with a little prying it will slide out. The nuts you see hold the pins to the splined part. Those nuts don't have to be removed to get the flange out. Remember to put the inner spacer tube back in." - Greg Foresi

It has several pins that fit into sleeves embedded in rubber shock absorbers in the wheel:

These pins can become stuck very solidly in the wheel. The flange can be pried out, just try not to damage the wheel itself while doing so.

Don't remove the nuts fastening the pins to the flange, these are non-serviceable and are not intended to be removed.

I put oil on it laying flat and let it soak overnight. After that I pried on it with all my might. It finally popped out and went flying past my face! Got the bike back together now after sitting for almost two weeks!
