What engine will work / interchange 77 Goldwing

I have a 1977 Honda Goldwing Gl 1000, Timing belts broke few weeks ago. Obtained 2 replacements, Once I had the belts on , bike started Ok, Knocking bad on the right side then a horrific sound and now she wont turn over.

Pretty fatal sound , I am figuring a replacement engine. QUESTION IS. What years and CC size that will work / interchange with my 1977 gl 1000. I am currently looking for a use replacement. Can anyone advise !

all 1000's will fit..w/o mods..and 1100's too but there are wiring and rear end issues with the 1100's. All carbs will work on all 1000's but will not perform as well as the year designed for the engine..every years was different 75 to 79 and all gl1100 carbs are the same.

yes all the 1000's will fit , remember the carbs from a 78 & 79 are recommended for motors of those years , i believe they changed the cams & jets etc for pollution requirements
The 75,76,77 carbs are interchangeable with motors from those years in a pinch , assuming your carbs are good

Best find another 1000.
As already mentioned, fitting an 1100 involves wiring problems for the electronic ignition, frame mods to clear the ignition module on the back of the engine and then you should use the transmission from the 1000 to keep the gearing right. You might be able to use the 1000 carbs on an 1100 but they would probably need some increase in the jetting.
A 1200 will go in too, but you run into the same problems except that the 86-87 1200 has the ignition on the front so you don't have to modify the frame. And you can't use the 1000 carbs on it either.
