i have 1977 gl1000 will the 1200 gw engine fit in my frame

Depends on the year of the 1200 engine. The 85-87 will bolt straight in. The mounting points are the same for all the four cylinders.
Even the EFi engine with the big alternator housing will (only just) go in. The 84 has an interference between the frame and the ignition module on the rear of the engine, but that is relatively easy to sort.
You will need to remove the clutch casing and rear casing to swap the 1000 output shaft into it as the 1200 one will not mate up to the 1000 drive shaft.
You then have all the fun of sorting out the ignition circuits and the hydraulic clutch operation!

year is unknown setting in a shed owner was friends dad's friend has passed Mom is selling.thanks for the info

Wrong picture posted! The one with Doug holding the bike is of his 1000 cafe called Cyborg.

This is the 1200 EFi engined 1000; running with carbs, mono-shocked, complete 1200 front end, extra fuel tank in the rear portion of the seat, etc., etc.
