I don't think any electronics can withstand the EMP of a nuclear blast, if that's what you're wondering. I had a discussion about some similar topic a while back, and an electronics savvy friend said I'd have to build a Faraday cage to put anything "electronic" in to protect it from the EMP...

Mind you, this isn't something I lose sleep over, but was mildly curious about what would "run" and what wouldn't in the event of a nuclear blast. Some people believe this is how the US will fall... tactical nuclear blasts high enough above ground to take out the electrical grid, communications, transportation... and basically the food and water supply, virtually ensuring mass panic, riots, starvation and general chaos.

I know I'm a bright ray of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day LOL...

I know how to grow food. I know how to hunt, fish and how to defend myself if need be. I also don't worry about much of anything. I figure if we were going to be hit by nuclear bombs, the Russians would have done it a long time ago.
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

One with points: Probably, yes. With electronic ignition: Probably not.

The only functioning items I am at all concerned with surviving an EMP are my guns. After an EMP, and all it entails, all other items are superfluous. And since there are no electronic components on or in my guns, I am not worried about them. Oh, Canada, I stand on guard - for - me!

Canada was hit by an EMP a few years ago. It was from the sun. Knocked out a HUGE part of the electrical grid. Civilization survived. (And quite a few children born 9 months later can attest to that.)

Really? I had no idea. Nothing was affected where ever I lived. Any other Canuckians know about this? Sure it wasn't just a solar flair, which is evidenced by heavier than normal Aurora Borealis visual display (Northern Lights)? Truly, I had no clue. Are you by any chance referring to the Geomagnetic storm in 1989 that knocked out Quebecs power generating systems?

themainviking,
Yup. A solar flare is an EMP caused by a plasma ejection from the sun.

I was wondering where this was going. HAARP and Project Bluebeam. I hear tin foil works wonders. ;) However if it should happen I agree with themainviking.

I never heard of either of them. I also don't worry too much if my motorcycle will run after a nuclear attack. I don't worry much about nuclear attacks either. I'm fortunate or unfortunate, as the case may be, to live close enough to the largest Naval base on the East coast (and I suppose Washington, DC) that in the event of a nuclear attack, I'm fairly certain that everthing here will be gone... including yours truly. So, rather than worry about it, I just live life pretty much the way I always have.

I don't worry much about the Zombie Apocolypse either...

We should have known something was up when a Canadian starts talking about owning weapons.
