who sells GL1000 Trailer Hitches?

Postby rpsanders04 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 4:56 pm

Hello Hooligans

My Bike is a 79 with the 78-79 Vetter windjammer and triple bags.

I can't find a retailer willing to guarantee that their trailer hitch mount will work with bags.

Will anyone here endorse a product?

Thanks

Good luck finding a new one for a bike that old.

Most guys would make one, fairly simple if you can weld.

I don't have access to a welding rig just yet, but i have chosen a few of the mounting points using existing bolt holes. The lowest crossmember of the subframe is a great spot to start but the 10mm bolt needs to be drilled out to accept a larger and stronger grade bolt. The next spot just above that is where the turn signals mount; they use a much larger diameter such as 18 or 19 mm.

They have nothing for a GL older than a 1500.

I was trying to prep the old girl in time for the Vintage bike fest at Barber Motor speedway, but after a more detailed assessment (and shortage of $$$) I've decided a minor unbuilding and rebuilding is long overdue. I have ridden her nonstop since Dec 2010 when i bought her from Huricane H@r!3y 0av!05on out on the west bank of New Orleans during their "repo going out of business sale". HA!. I've been lucky to only have a few electrical shorts and a timing change and a couple of tires in 14K miles . I plan to clean the carbs, buy nice rear shocks, replace fork springs, touch up the paint on the rustable bits, and solder some connections together. Oh yeah i also need new tires again. The carbs come first because labor is free, and in the meantime i'll just ride the KLR to work and as for Barber; i an fit more camping gear in the station wagon

Thanks for the help
