Restoration of GL1-000002 by Pistol Pete's Services

Postby pistolpete » Tue Nov 25, 2014 6:43 pm

I received a call this afternoon from the owner of GL1-1000002 GoldWing.
His name is Dan Dearmond from Idaho and he wants us to do the restortation work on this extremely unique and very rare Preproduction Prototype GoldWing.
We should receive it in December and begin the work after the first of the year.
The finished unit will be on public display at WingDing 37 at Huntsville, AL.
This remarkable GoldWing is without doubt the oldest roadworthy unit in the world and was one of five on display at the September 1974 Honda Dealer Show in Las Vegas, NV.

I'm probably mistaken, but I think I've seen pictures of that bike somewhere. I am very glad to read that you will be restoring her. Please provide a link (or post pictures here) of your work as it progresses...
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

What I will do is post the location of all pictures on my website along with a story line.
Hopefully you can see the entire restoration in WingWorld magazine if they decide to publish it.

Hi Pistolpete,

That is a very interesting development, thanks for sharing!
I hope that you will show pictures of the restoration.
Good luck with your historical job!

Best regards, Ruud

Many parts and configurations on this unit have proven to me that it is genuine.
Attached is a picture with the shelter lid open as well as the side shelter covers.
Note the really cool latches for the side covers. At the top center you will see the pull lever for the right side.
The mechanism for the left side is really cool.

Yes, I will do just that. It makes sense to post pictures when the unit arrives and comparisons can be made with a production unit and this unique machine.
It has taken longer than I expected to receive it but the trucking company has set the arrival date to be the third week in Jan.
I will then share them with all.

Thanx Pete
