Define what you mean by work. The feel will be wooden, but it may slow the bike. I use a 14 mm and I believe optimum is a 15 mm.

Are you having a issue or just feel like changing.

Really not alot can be done to these old setups using stock items to get them to stop like todays brakes.

It is what it is.
