Changing fork oil

Postby steveclk » Sun May 10, 2015 7:01 pm

I have a 78 Gl100 and I just changed the fork oil. When drained I found 4oz of black sludge in the right tube and 6oz of appeared to be ATF in the left tube. I filled both fork tubes with 6oz of ATF and couldn't believe the difference in the fork action. My question is, would an synthetic fork oil be ok to use instead of ATF in the next change?
The bike has only 25,000 miles on the clock and had been sitting for years in the PO's garage.

Use whatever your happy with.Ive actually mixed ATF with 30W motor oil for a bit stiffer fork action. My internal dampening valves and seals were a bit worn...150K miles
