GL1000 idling quirk

Postby steveclk » Sun May 10, 2015 7:22 pm

I have a 78 GL1000 and have been riding it for about 2000 miles after being awakened after a long sleep in the PO's garage. The carbs have been cleaned, tank de rusted, new t-belts, every thing else recommended after a long sleep. Carbs are synced and air fuel set, it runs and idles great when the air temp is in the 60's and 70's but let the air temp get into the 80's and being stuck in stop and go traffic it starts to idle higher and higher. I can adjust the idle down and all is well until the the air temp cools off then the idle needs to be adjusted for the cooler weather. Any suggestions?

Is it possible that the floats are not exactly floating?I have seen the old style black composit floats absorb fuel and sink a bit raising the fuel level into the "rich" region.
If you can't find anything else, and you have the original floats, you might dip them in polyurethane a few times to seal them.
