No power when I turn the key

Postby Natemay » Sun Jun 14, 2015 9:11 am

Hey
So I'm new to this whole thing but I need some help. I have a 76 gl 1000. So I took the bike out about 2 months ago and it had been running great did about 2000 miles the first month. then we had rain for four days so when I went to start her back up no power. I have had this problem before but it was the dogbone. So I checked the dogbone and I'm getting 12.6 volts on the far end.
Thank
Nate

Do you have volts with the key on on the 2 big red wires on the start relay.?

Troubleshooting procedures will reveal the problem. The big red wire feeds the ignition switch.
First check is to see if there's volts avaiable to the ignition switch and if it stays there when the key is turned on.
This is checked with a test light or volt meter attached to the frame first then the battery ground lug.

Not much else.Power feeds this ignition switch on the big red wire and comes out on a big black one and direct to the fuse block.
You could test jump them to see if the bike lights up...Won't have the accessories but it should crank off Ok.
