75 gl1000 fuel/temp gauge

Postby ChristopherStalken » Tue Aug 25, 2015 2:31 pm

Heyo. I have a 75 gl1000 that I picked up a couple months ago, and after noticing that the fuel and temp gauges weren't working I put a new regulator on it, which should be the fix for this, from what I understand.

However, now the gas gauge just goes up to empty (despite being full) and the temp gauge doesn't respond at all.

Having trouble figuring out what the issue could be. All the connections seem fine.

Thanks

Do you have a voltmeter? If so, with the regulator in place, and the bike turned on, measure the voltage:

Between red (positive) and green (negative)
Between black (positive) and green (negative)

You should see ~12 volts between red and green, and very close to 7 volts between black and green.

No voltmeter, but I can probably pick one up from harbor freight soon. So. If the volts are all correct, then what would be the issue? The gas gauge goes up, but not past empty. Nothing from the temp

Go to HF and buy a 2 buck pair of saftey glasses to ride with and use the coupon to get a free DMM. I do it every time that coupon's going on ;)
