Obstructed fuel tank pick up

Postby Cory Covert » Sat Oct 31, 2015 6:51 pm

Hi everyone, new to the forum and Goldwing. I have a 1978 goldwing 1000 GL. My orginal tank was loaded with rustso I managed to find another with no rust but it seems that the fuel pickup in the tank are clogged. I did some searches and did get some answers. In a nut shell, it seems the best methed is to blow back into the tank with compressed air then maybe soak it with seafoam. Should I remove the petcock first? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

May not be the best method but it is the easiest and worth a first try. No need to remove the petcock for this method. Do both the run and reserve positions. If this doesn't work then remove the petcock and run a flexible cable down the tunes and spin slowly with a drill motor. An old choke or throttle cable works well
