Postby firagate » Fri Dec 04, 2015 10:28 pm

hello again i have another problem  my calibers are giving me problems my rear is sticking and if i hit it the caliber piston will release and my front calibers are stuck
now if you know the story about my bike its been sitting for a long time so im sure its surface rust basically im wondering if anyone has a cure to get the little pistons to free up without having to rebuild the calibers

Evening Firagate, if the pistons are sticking now, it more than likely will continue due to age of the rubber seals and dirt, you can try using parts cleaner follewed up with a little brake fluid as a lubricant. Me personally I would rebuild both front and rear and flush systems and add new brake fluids. I take chances with some things but not with the brakes or tires. :D :D

Yes, when it gets to the point where pistons are getting stuck like that, there is no magic product that will fix it - the solution is to rebuild the caliper.

ok so i figured it out i fixed them they work as good as new
for anyone that is like me all you need is a dremel tool and 2 soft wire brushes of course my rubber rings are in great shape so thats a plus :D
when i pulled the pistons out they had gunk up inside all i did was put a little brake fluid in and used the wire brush to clean it all out made sure the pistons and rings were in working shape and put it all back together no likes perfect
sadly im a person with very little money so i always try to figure out how to fix it without spending money when i can do so
it only took me the whole day  but they work i would trust my life with them so cannot ask for any more than that with brakes

congratulations on getting your bike back on the road again. I am glad you hear you were able to clean out the gunk that was keeping your brakes from working properly. ride often and ride safe. :D :D
