GW 1000 78 Need help missfire etc etc...

Postby Haggard » Sun Jan 10, 2016 3:59 pm

Hello need assist. My GW 50.000 miles have not been used the last 15 years, only started for few minutes and old owner notice that it was not ok, missing cylinder or something. I have refurbished the carbs (randakk kit) not really any surprise there, new sparks and spark plugs, new fuel, filters, oil, new timing belt etc (correct). Ignition points adjusted and timing as well. I have also check leak down (5%)and compression test (7kg)and it fully ok. The motor don't run well on any rpm and it feel it's like 1-2 cylinders don't work correct. In some lower rpm there is some minor misfire on left cylinders.... What is the problem ? Can anyone give me some ideas ?
Can it be the coils? I have been looking after capacitor (s) but not find them yet
Where can I buy coils and capacitors ?

Are you actually getting spark to the plugs?

Have you rested them.

You can get coils from other year GLs, the 1100s work in a 1000 after they are set to the new voltage.

Some use coils from a American car, a dodge Neon.

I just switched, well I'm in the midst of, to a whole new ignition system, the C5.

Come with everything you need but it isn't cheap, about $600 USD.

But 1st determine if you are actuallt getting spark.

Be sure you get spark first, Dyna coils are another choice but 1100 coils are a fine choice also and less expensive and easy to fabricate the mount.

Hello

I change the entire ignition to Dyna S pointless and coils, and after a carbsync the bike now works perfect :-)
