GL1000 Headlamp mounting bolts

Postby Maz » Tue Jan 12, 2016 12:54 pm

I was asked by a friend (and fellow GL1000 owner) if I knew where to get hold of the two bolts that hold the headlamp onto the 'ears' part No 90120-371-000. I assumed they were readily available but none of the usual places (David Silver, CMSNL, John Oldfield) have them. I've tried searching using the part No's for the CB750 and CB500T as well, as they are basically the same item, but only found one available with David Silver. Do any of you have some squirrelled away somewhere or know where he may be able to get them?
Thanks in advance,

Maz

If you are doing a full blown restoration, just ignore me. You can get a metric bolt that will fit in there. I'm sure someone knows the thread size. You could even drill and tap it to put the reflectors on. I saw one on ebay that was very pricey.
Keep your expectations tiny and you won't end up so whiny.

Many thanks for that. I did similar on my CB750 and it worked perfectly. As you mentioned, this is for a full-on resto for a friend. He has managed to get hold of some hexagonal stock bar which he has turned and threaded on his lathe. I think he ought to produce a few more and sell them at a reasonable price!

Yes, I bought a short length of 1/2" stainless hex. bar and turned up a pair. Just note that the male thread is a Metric Fine thread and not the usual standard thread you come across. I won't quote the pitch as I'd just be guessing but I have a note of it down in the workshop. Twenty minutes to make a pair. :D

Aha...the friend in question. :D
Well done Paul. Almost time to update your profile picture now you've done all these bits to the bike, isn't it?

Ian, I am a numpty when it comes to storing images. I have loads but I seem to store them on Facebook and then every time I join a new forum, I have to learn their way of showing images. The best I can do is this. It's not my bike but identical to it. David Silver has kept we waiting for about six weeks for one single front indicator mount but, hey ho, it's still a tad too cold to ride much. Last job, after the indicators, is to balance the carbs. A working fuel gauge would be nice too.
