Speedo and Tack removal

Postby vinsil1 » Fri Apr 01, 2016 10:50 am

Good morning. Does anyone know of a diagram or a tutorial that shows the removal of the speedometer and tachometer from a GL1000? I have the instructions in print but they seem to be a lot more complicated than what I see just looking at the bike. I inquired at Pistol Pete's via email, because that is where I will get them serviced, but I have not had a reply yet. Thanks.
Vince

Looks pretty simple just looking at a picture of the back of the gauges removed (see link below). Remove cable connections on the back, disconnect wiring connectors and take two nuts off and the hole assembly looks like it comes off in one piece. Don't own a 1000 so maybe someone else will chime in if there is something more involved.

It's as simple as 97Aspy says.

I just did this on my 1976 GL1000 and it's very straightforward, just follow the Pistol Pete instrux: http://www.oldwings.com/services.html#gaugeout
Turns out the magnet on my tach shaft had broken apart & fallen off. Gauges came back looking & working great, well worth the money. I had picked
up a cheap set off Ebay to practice with, so I did have an advantage of knowing my way around them before starting. Do you have a fairing on your bike?

Thanks for the reply. I do not have a fairing, only naked.
