AIR FUEL MIX GL1000 (RUNNING LEAN)

Postby raven2zero » Mon Aug 23, 2010 3:15 am

Hi,
I've recently purchased a 1979 GL1000, where the previous owner changed the exhausts from the originals. The bike backfires on deceleration and hestitates on acceleration (also runs hot at freeway speeds), a sign of a lean mixture in the carbs. According to the Haynes Manuel the jets can be set, but it does not say how. The original owner advised me to replace the carbs with 1100 carbs to solve the problem, but I do not want to do this. Can anyone please advise on how to change the mixture, or whether it would be best to put the 1100 carbs on the bike, or should I just find the original exhaust (but the new one looks and sounds cool). ps I'm from South Africa, East Rand.
Thanks
