would GL1100 forks fit on a 1976 GL1000

I just got a 76 GL1000 and the fork seals are gone and the last owner put progressive springs and fork oil I have no idea what weight. My thought is to replace them with forks off a GL1100 will it work?

First you will have change everything lowers, tubes, trees, neck bearings, brake calipers, wheel, rotor. As one big unit, it will fit but you can't just use one or two items, they won't interchange. The hardest part is changing the neck bearings. You will have to go with loose balls on the tree or bang out the cups and convert the frame to tapered bearings. Myself, I would redo the seals on the 76 fork. The forks on my 76 have lasted for 148k miles now with most of that pulling a sidecar. Its a good fork.

That is more than I want to do. What weight fork oil should I run, and the progressive springs seem stiff are the stock ones just mush.
