So I picked up a 1981 gl1100. The original owner started making it into a bobber project and quit before selling it to the guy I got it from. Bobber dummy removed all the lights and luggage from it. So I need some pointers on the wiring cause I'm getting no power to my headlight and the tail light wiring is confusing.

Get yourself a service manual and a wiring diagram.

They are available here in color, you can either print it out or bring the file to a copy shop and have them print out a large size one.

Already did that, didn't help much in the current state it's in. Looks like I'll be chasing wires, cause the idiot left behind all the wires he should have removed too.

blue = big light,
white = normal light,
green = ground,
orange = left blinker
light blue = right blinker.

Maybe blue and white is the other way around...

My issue is I'm getting no power to the headlight, but the guage lights work.

Well, if neither the blue nor the white wire carry any oomph, than you'll just have to trace their paths.

Had almost the same problem. My bike had a vetter fairing installed and I removed it,the wiring was a mess. I had to cut all the fairing wires out and trace all the lighting wires. I finally got it working but it was a pain. Just one light at a time. I started with the tail end first.It's the only way ,use the color codes in the wiring diagram.

Thanks. I have ordered new bar switches as I have been having issues with the signals not working properly either. Once those get here, will start rewiring.
