Replacing the clutch perch

Hola to all my Goldwingers brothers
New member here, (please excuse any mistakes in my English, Im still working on it), I'm a proud owner of a 77 GL1000 in Wisconsin. I have been working on it all summer, nothing serious though, but it is coming out great.
I need to replace the clutch perch, my "problem" is how do you manage the wires of the controls.
I have the one with the perch with the mirror mount and then the controls on a separate unit. I pulled out the hand grip, then I unscrewed the control unit, which opens up in 2 parts, but when I try to pull out the perch, it wont pass over the wires that come from inside the handlebar to the controls.
What's the trick?
Unplug all the wires from the bottom and pull them out of the handlebar(with a string for reinstallation)???
Cut the wires and then "tape" them together again??
Am I stupid and its super simple??

I tape on an old clutch or throttle cable to reinstall. I also use electrical tape to tie the connector bullets close to the wires and keep them from catching. Not a bad job for the third time you do it.
