Electronic Ignition

Post by wingingit2 » Sat Sep 30, 2017 8:48 pm

Does anyone recognize this ignition module? I am wanting to put some Dynatek coils on my '75 GL1000 and need to know what ohm primary I will need.

I don´t know your ignition, but you need to find out if your bike still have the ballast-resistor.
As you already have an Electronic Ignition, I think you can use any Coil that can deal with 12V, but if there is the OEM resistor you need a coil with very small resistance (like 2Ohm). If the resistor is deleted (or bridged) a 3 Ohm dyna-coil will do fine. (I deleted the resistor on my mashine when i installed the electronic ignition.)
I recommand reading http://www.randakksblog.com/ballast-res ... procedure/.

G'day wingingit2,
Can't help with the identification of the ignition but agree with hellclimber about the coils.
Common fix with Ducati bevels is to replace the OEM coils and resisters with Dyna 3 ohm coils so if going down this path, make sure you lose any OEM resisters fitted to the bike.
Good chance they have been deleted when the electronic ignition was fitted but check anyway.

On another note, has anyone fitted a Sasche electronic ignition to a GL1000?
I have fitted them to Ducati bevels and they work a treat but have never spoken to anyone who has done it to a Goldwing.

Only had a chance to look, not work. I can see the ballast resister with a piggy back resister. So without measuring I guess it would be 3 ohm's and I would use 3 ohm Dyna coils.

Thanks for the help. wingrider from NGW figured it out. He said to look for a Dyna III Module. I found one under the opposite side Shelter so I now know it is a Dyna III from Dynatek.
