Replacing 76 GL1000 coils with 77 GL1000 coils

Post by bentoserve@gmail.com » Fri Nov 03, 2017 12:25 pm

Hi,
I'm replacing my 76 GL1000 ignition coils with 77 GL1000 coils. My question is that the 76 Coils had a box labeled "ARS Ignition System" connected to the coils, but the 77 coils don't have this ARS box. Is it ok to bypass this ARS box and not have any issues?

Thanks,
Ben

Well that is not an oem device. Can't find much on google about ARS ignition system. Couple of hits include a remote start system and also a breathalyzer  . ??? Do you still have the original points ignition?

Well, I installed the ignition coils from the 77 GL1000 on the 76 GL1000 and it seems to be running fine. This 76 GL1000 has an electronic ignition and points I believe. Here's a photo of the "A.R.C. Ignition System" box that was attached to the original 76 GL1000 coils. Hopefully, it will continue to run good with the 77 coils installed.
Thanks for input.

You can have one or the other.

Can't have both.

Wonder if this was it. http://www.powerarc.com/

Not sure it is a good idea to replace a failed 41 year old coil with a good 40 year old coil. Dyna makes some very nice coils that will last a lot longer and not develop a crack before the next rain shower when you are caught out riding. Electronics weak links are age and heat.
