I just want to thank you guys for all the helpful info about my '79 GL1000. It's a sweet ride and I really look forward to getting back on it after getting a new hip in January. With the help of the DIY articles I've made my own synchro kit for the carbs and ordered electrical parts from the site saving several dollars.
With a little ingenuity I got the carbs drained, cleaned and rebuilt. I finished installing new timing belts and will tackle checking the valve clearances. I used to rebuild VW engines and the procedure is very similiar.
Does anybody know of some pictures of the old original side cover and tank details? I want to re-paint it next winter and keep to the original if at all possible.
With only 28,000 original miles on it I hope to keep it for several years, unless a very attractive offer comes up and I can get a newer model.
