Clutch Replacement on my 78

Postby GrumpyGrizzly » Tue May 31, 2011 7:57 pm

I thought I posted this a few minutes ago and if there's some kind of waiting period for posts to show up, I guess it can be deleted by the mods.

Anywho, in case I fat fingered something and it never posted, here's what I'm looking for.

I've got a 78 with a clutch that's slippin quite a bit, especially after my run from Phoenix to Vegas this past weekend.

Does anyone know any mechanics in the Phoenix/Mesa/Tempe area that will work on our old warhorses and not charge an arm and a leg for the work? The guy I bought the bike from said he knew a mechanic names Steve that would do it for about $300.00.

Is this something that can be done with basic tools? All my fancy tools are back in Vancouver, WA but, I do have a decent set of basic tools here. Metric sockets, wrenches etc..

Any help is greatly appreciated..

It can be done with the engine still in the bike. Good detail over at Randakk's and NGWClub.com as well as others sites no doubt.

Im not that familiar with the 78 but does your clutch also sit in your engine oil as do most wings and if so what type of oil are you using if its not made for wet clutch it can make your clutch slip just a thought . Hal

No waiting period here...if it didn't show up, then something went wrong.

BTW, my first bike was an 84 Interceptor. :)
