starter GL 1000 & GL 1100

Postby towarzyszrzepa » Wed Nov 04, 2009 2:03 am

HI
Yesterday definitively died commutator in my bike.
What is the difference between starter in GL 1000 and GL 1100 ?
Can I install starter from GL 1100 in GL 1000 ?
I'am asking because in my neighbourhood its much easier to find GL 1100 parts.

The 1000 starter is alittle longer than the 1100 I just tryed to swap one lasted week it doesn't fit. That was a 1975 1000 to a 1980 1100 hope that helps.

If you go to ebay abd search out you bike I'm sure you will find the same deal as I got. I paid $101.00 even to have a brand new starter delivered in 4 days. I am quite sure that we have the same starter. Mine is a 1982 1100 Aspencade.

Good Luck & let me know what you find

Well I looked the part numbers up and they are differant, So I would say the starter from a GL1000 won't work on a Gl1100 so I would say you need to get on a computer and check on ebay. There are starter's on there all the time. I hope this helps you and good luck. You may check one other place, It is a web site called ricksmotorsportelectrics.com I just got a regulater from them for my 1986 GL1200 SEI and they give a 1yr guarantee. Lee Oklahoma

The Honda 1100 starter will fit the 1000; there is a problem the other way round. Most after market starters are the same for both.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

If you are mechanically inclined, you may be able to salvage the existing starter motor if the problem is in the brushes and not in the windings. Though the entire starter motor is different across makes and models, Honda did use common brushes (and sometimes upper assembly) throughout most of the 70's. You can order the brushes new but they are harder to find and a little pricey. Much easier to find used CB750 parts and salvage what you need.
