1977 gl1000 gas mileage , temp and gas gauge..
My gas gauge and temp gauge do not work. once in awhile when i turn the key on to start the bike the gas gauge will work , but then stops working. any idea,s? also , until i get it fixed could anyone tell me aprox how many miles i will get out of a full tank ? I do believe these are 5 gal. tanks.

The gas and temp gauge are controlled by the 7 volt regulator. If the regulator is bad the gauges will peg at max. So your problem depends on what "do not work" means. Could just be a bad connection somewhere in the regulator circuit between it and the gauges. Yes the fuel tank holds 5 gal. The 77 ,if properly tuned, should get somewhere between 35 and 40 mpg. Depending on the wrist.

most of the time the gauge,s does not move at all. temp on cold and gas on E. when you say 7 volt regulator do you mean the voltage regulator on left side of fake gas tank? that was replaced a few weeks ago and works fine or are you talking about anougher regulator? were is it located if you are. thanks!

Check your ground wires and clean if corroded on your gauges and check the gas tank sending unit on the tank to be sure it is moving freely.

Yes the 7 volt regulator is a different component entirely. It also is located inside the left side false tank cover. If your gauges are at low or sometimes working it is likely not the problem. I would check all the wiring and connectors from there to the gauges.

It's an extremely simple fix. Check out: 7 Volt Regulator
