chains

How often do the chains need to be replaced? I have 40,000 on my 79 and I do the external work myself. Learning alot from the different forums. Thanks.

What chains are you asking about? The only chain except for the starter chain is the primary chain. It probably will never need replacing. You may be referring to the timing belts and if they have never been replaced you need to do it "soon".

are you talking about the timing belts? if you are unsure of how old the belts are then replace them

I see that there are 2 chains which you hit on the head, thanks. One less thing to worry about. Also the first thing I did was replace the belts, plugs, filters, and do the motor flush with the trany oil.

And the duplex oil pump chain!

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!
