Replacing a seat

Postby twaggoner » Fri Nov 04, 2011 8:35 pm

I am purchasing a 1977 Gl1000. I am wanting to puchase a "King-Queen" seat. I have been on ebay and have seen seats that I would like to have. How do I know what seat will fit? If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!!! Thanks

I do not like the King Queen Seats. I sold the one I had last year. The wife wanted no part of it either. We are happy with a stock seat. Travel Cade makes one with a removable back rest that others seem to like. You cannot go wrong with Corbin.

The seat pan is specific for 1975-1979 GL's. So if you want a stock fit, those are the only configurations. If you are handy (think Red and Green), then other GL seats can be made to fit.

I have a king/queen on a 77 that I would gladly trade for a stock seat. The king/queen is maybe a little better in that it supports you in one position but I am so used to the stock seat on my other 77 for the last 218,000 miles that I prefer the stock seat. The king/queen is also noticably softer.

I have a Corbin K&Q seat on my '79 and it is quite comfortable and soft, much better than stock, for me. On my customized '75, I am using a stock GL1100(81) seat(no mods needed) and it is much better than the early styles. I sold a Mustang K&Q that fit me like a baseball glove, good lower back support, but it was too hard. I called it "the hundred mile seat", as my butt hurt after that.
What works for you is not for everyone. Some folks fit stock just fine, others are purists in keeping their bikes looks. Test a few on other's bikes and do some research with your rear.
