Hose from rear reservior to m/c: what kind?

Postby BigSwede » Fri Mar 02, 2012 10:04 pm

Finishing up my brake rebuild this weekend and I want to replace the hose between the rear reservior and master cylnder. Is there any particular type of hose I should use? I have some clear vinyl hose that fits but want to make sure it will stand up to brake fluid.

Thanks, Mark

You can only use brakes lines..lots of pressure in there and should be rated. Lots of on line sellers of this kind of stuff.

Not the high pressure line.... The clear reservoir pipe

Brake fluid will attack and break down a lot of plastics, so whatever hose you use should be rated for brake fluid/hydraulic fluid.

I found some semi-transparent nylon hose that i had lying around. Fairly rigid, just flexible enough to route from M/C to reservoir. Looks good and if you suck the reservoir dry while bleeding, you can see if there's at least fluid still in the hose (don't ask how i know)

Should be compatible with brake fluid (after all they make reservoirs out of nylon) but I'm keeping a close watch on it looking for any problems.

Weeeeeel... The nylon hose was leaking where it connects to the M/C, was getting brake fluid on the driveway... So went back to the original hose.
