Postby 1988jeep » Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:41 pm

i have a 83 aspencade GL1100A wasnt running on left front cylinder took bowls off carb and cleaned them and needles put back on bike it ran fine with a little smoke white , turned off next day started the bike had a knocking or ticking sound comein from motor put sea foam in gas and crank case not that much ran it for 45 mins changed the oil still no change then relized wasnt running on right back cylinder where the noise is comeing from checked gap between valves that one was loose tightened it to right gap but still have noise and still not running on right back cylinder what would make it run like this go from left front to right back cylinder confused

Could be several issues:

Check spark at each cylinder and the condition of the plugs. You could have a bad coil, bad plugs, bad connections to your points etc.
Check your timing, it may be out of adjustment.
Check to see if fuel is getting to all of the float bowls by loosening the drain screws and seeing if fuel comes out and what condition that fuel is, there maybe junk getting by your fuel filter gumming up your needle valves or slow idle jets.
As for the noise, describe it better; is it a ticking or a knocking? Is it constant or intermittent? Is your oil topped off at the proper level?

If you're getting spark to all of the other plugs then I would gather that your points are set right and the issue would be in the plug or connection or coil wire for that cylinder. If your plug is wet, then it is not firing. My suggestion would be to first try changing the plug .. still no spark, check the coil wire to boot connection, .. still no spark, then look for a broken or arching wire and as a last resort I would look for another coil.

The floats must be set correctly by measuring them..not by sight alone..what year is the bike?? different for different years, there is a process to setting them read here..

I had the same problem, i did all the carb cleaning coil replacement and still didnt fire.........finally figured it out it was the pulse Generator was not working correctly. had to replace had to find one on the web from a person baking down old bike.........Works like a charm now.........firing on all 4 and runs all day :)
