Wing Admin Waterpump Post

Postby Joecop » Sat Mar 17, 2012 5:57 pm

Hi,

I joined this group today after having reviewed and using Wing Admin's "How to change a waterpump" post. I can't thank you enough for the post! I basically joined to say, "Thank you!".

I completed the job minutes ago (1980 GL1100) I did not remove the radiator or worry about the top 3 inch bolts, contrary to your posting Wing they will clear the frame on a 1980. Also another short cut is to not take off the bottom radiator hose but unbolt the waterneck an just move it forward.

Still this posting was the best I have seen on the net and makes me wonder why I continue to buy service manuals! I lurk many a website but belong to few and maintain a 76 Harley, 77 Kaw, 72 Honda cb750 in a Amen frame with a girder front and a GL1100.

Thanks Joe

I picked up a black 1980 Gl1000 with 28k for 1200.00 -I know is stole it.
I have done the following: brakes - new pads, rebuilt the back caliper, brake fluid change, oil chang w/filter, installed new radio, installed 12v plug for GPS, volt meter lower left side of fairing, stator wire mod - cut off plug sodered wires w/heat wrap, new tires dunlops of course, air filter, fuel filter and new fuel lines, polished valve covers replaced gasket, polished intakes, timing belts gates (the zip tying the wrench trick to hold the cam gear was awesome by the way!), plugs and other clean up things and some chrome. Also I took off the crusty chrome heat shields and wrapped the header to thw muffler with black heat wrap.

Think this thing will make a 2k trip I have planned in June?
