carb leaking

Postby Johnyy Smoke » Sun Mar 18, 2012 7:51 am

Hello!
I have been taking advantage of the warm weather here in sw MN.So far I replaced the timing belts, spark plugs,o rings and gaskets on the cross over pipes, radiator hoses, water pump cover o ring (bike sat for a year) adjusted valves and sync the carbs.Gl1100 1980.
Now it seems I have a carb leak (#2) but only at highway speeds.Looks like the bottom bowl gasket. What is the method of fixing this? Do I have to pull all four?
Any info is really aprreciated. Regards,Johnyy

Yep to work on carbs you have to pull all four..but a leak at only highway speeds doesn't make any sense.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83

FAIR WINDS,

Yeah-I noticed it after i got back from a ride-gas on top of motor-and a stain on #2 bowl.No visible leak when idiling or tooling around town.
I assumed I will have to pull the carbs-any one have a good method to do this?Regards,Johnyy

That's more likely a stuck float that is overflowing the float bowl than a leak. Are you sure it happens only at highway speeds?

As far as I can tell-it dosent leak when idiling.I agree about the stuck float-I ran some seafoam thru it and drove for 25 miles or so-then I noticed the leak.Regards,Johnyy
