gl1100 coils

Postby steve allen » Wed Jan 20, 2010 11:50 pm

does anyone know the resistance of factory coils. I think I have a coil the has a crack, when bike warms up, it drops a cylinder and the coils hae never been replaced. I have been looking in Dennis Kirk catalog, and the coils range fromm 2.2 to 5ohms.

The 1100 service manual available on the Manuals page here (page 15-3 to 15-5) states:

Resistances through cables and coil should be 22K +/- 5K ohm
Pulse coil resistance should be 530 ohms +/- 50 ohms

Main coils:
Primary resistance: 0.4 +/- 0.04 ohms
Secondary resistance:
1980 - 1981 22K +/- 5K ohms
1982 - 1983 16.7K +/- 1.6K ohms
