Pre Amp for IPod adapter

Postby fgh » Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:09 pm

Hi,

I removed the cassette player from my 83 Aspy and installed an IPod adapter. It works fine except that the volume is a little low. I thought that perhaps a pre-amp would get the volume I wanted and tracked this one down. http://electronickits.com/kit/complete/ampl/k100.htm

Is this a good remedy?

THANKS!!!

I guess it would depend on where you get your audio out of the Ipod.Don't quote me but I believe that the docking plug is low level audio and the headphone jack is high level audio.Which one do you use and can you tell me where it was adapted to the bike?
The thing your looking at is a low level amp and should provide enough drive for the bikes interface module.I don't think the Ipod has the same low level signals. So this amp should fit the bill.

Thanks virgilmobile,

Its actually an IPhone that connects to the adapter via a docking plug. The adapter will charge the IPhone and also transfer the music to left and right channel outputs.

I removed the cassette deck and attached the adapter to the leads the cassette deck used to feed the post amp. There was a switched wire coming from the cassette deck to the amplifier. I added a toggle switch and connected the line to it.

It sounds like your on the right track.Unfortunately,my 83 does not have a cassette so I can't measure with a scope the audio levels compared to the Ipod. I do suspect the casette level is higher.A adjustable level preamp sounds like the cure.I can't verify what the levels should be so it will be a trial and error.
Keep us posted about this please.
