1st wing, need a little help

Brought this home earlier this evening. What I would like to know is what model is it? Title says it is an '83 but I haven't found any pictures of an '83 with a Vetter fairing. Also going to need to get a rear turn signal lens. Would like to find a set of bags and a speaker for the stereo. Going to have to clean the carbs as idle is a bit nasty but is cruises well at speed. Figured I'd try some Sea Foam first. Gonna order a "first timer's" kit before I do any serious riding. It only has 27,436 on the clock and was told that that is actual mileage to the best of the PO's knowledge. He has owned it for the last 11 years but rarely rode it. Have no reason to doubt him as he is in his 70's.









Almost forgot. I only paid $500.00 for it. Score???????

I'd say you hit the ball out of the park. Even though it runs a bit rough, you found a great deal. Low mileage is great. Once you run the seafoam, change the fluids and ride it for awhile that'll change. It probably came new as a standard model, no fairing. The fairing and bags are possibly aftermarket. You can find the parts you need on ebay and the forum boards. You might want to change the timing belts soon. May have low mileage, but age is a factor. How old are the tires? Look at the 4-digit code on the sidewalls. Last 2 digits are the year. Best to replace if over 5 years old. Wing's don't like to sit idle for long periods, so it will take awhile to clear the cobwebs. :lol: Won't hurt to run half a can of seafoam in the crankcase before an oil change. just run it gentle for about 50/100 miles. I'll bet it's been sitting a long time between oil changes. This forum will help you with everything you need to do to it. Good luck and congrats on the $500 "running" wing. You don't find those very often. :mrgreen:

Looks like an 83 standard (no fairing/luggage from factory) The Vetter fairing is aftermarket, looks like someone added an Interstate/Aspencade trunk to it. The top set of rear turn signals are bolted to the mount points for the saddlebags. You could just remove the top (extra) set and use their lenses on the original bottom set. Tho they do look kinda nice there and extra lighting is always good!

I had a 76 GL1000 with the same Vetter fairing and I adapted rear trunk/bags from a later Interstate for it.

Looks like a very nice bike, congratulations!

Thanks all around! One thought was that perhaps it was a standard with added amenities but wasn't sure. I prefer the look of the Vetter over factory anyway. I do plan on getting a "new2you" kit for it and will be changing out the tires.

Yep a standard with Vetter fairing and OEM trunk..from an 83. If you want to know for sure turn the bars to the right and look at the ID plate on the steer stem..nothign next tot eh year is standard, I= interstate, A = Aspie.

The second set of red rear signals are not stock..looks really weird having two sets of rear signals I guess the guy wanted extra lights to show he was stopping????

Note I have brackets for bags and a set of bags in good shape but they are brown so would have to be painted to match.

Brackets $50 plus shipping..Bags with locks and key, turn signals, lids $100 plus shipping.

The paint scheme (stripes) on the false tank says it's a Standard.
