Is it that simple?, just change pistons and cylinders and cams? Has anyone done this?

No....
If you want to convert,Ill sell you my 1200 for $2000.
It would be cheaper than the conversion.
I'd even sell my rebuilt 1100 for $2500

If you have your heart set on a conversion, it's far simpler to buy a used 1200 engine and shoehorn it into the 1100 frame.

But for all the effort and work involved, as virgilmobile said, you're far better off just buying a 1200, economically speaking.

I have both bikes.there isn't much difference between them.the 1200 does have hydraulis lifters so it is a touch quieter, but the 1100 seems to be a bit quicker.I only noticed a dramatic change when I run the 1500. 6 cylinders do pull different.
