Disabled Vet needs help building a `82 GL1100 Trike

Postby Dakotadoc2000 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 6:11 pm

Howdy All!
:ugeek:
I need help building My `82 into a Trike.
I have back and leg problems and can`t trust them to work when I need them!
Is there anybody out there that can maybe suggest where I can find a rearend kit that doesn`t cost a arm and leg? We live on a fixed income. ( $970 a Month )
After paying rent, Electricty and buying Food, there ain`t much left.
I was told that a Lemann Kit runs about $ 15,000 !
Any info would help greatly!

Thanks in Advance.

Welcome to the site. Have you looked into the Tow-Pac Insta-Trike Kit? They cost about $3900 and they offer a military discount. The best part is they are removable so you can use it on another one if you ever sell the bike. And you don't have to modify the bike by removing the rear wheel and suspension. Here's a link with pics and a video. I think you will like this setup.

Thanks ya kindly Seabee!

I was hoping for something a little more permanent and also I have heard of others having problems with these units. ( Just hearsay mind you. )

BUT... I`ll check into to it.

Thanks again,

here is another site I came across. Don't know the pricing on the systems, but they look like a good setup.

Thanks Paul.

I checked them out and they don`t make them for the older and smaller Wings.

Thanks for trying, I guess I`ll have to work in an Auto rear axle instead.

I'll keep looking around the forums. I remember coming across a post from a guy doing his own trike conversion using a small car rearend that he cut down and had the axle shafts machined to fit the offset for the pumpkin location. I'll let you know if I find it. Have you thought about doing a side car conversion?

Here are those trike builds I mentioned. The first one is a GL1200 trike build in progress.

GL1500 using a Mazda Miata IRS rear end.

GL1800 using a regular car rear end.

It might help to give you some ideas and direction to go for your project.
