Front fork cracked

Postby Johnyy Smoke » Fri Apr 20, 2012 1:11 pm

Hello!
I noticed today on my 1980 gl1100 my left front fork has two small cracks on the very top just below the seal. There is a slight amount of fluid showing. I am assuming that the fork will have to be replaced-and both rebuilt?I am planning on buying a used fork and rebuilding,Any thoughts on this?Regards,Johnyy

thats the only choice, Buying site unseen is always a gamble so good luck with that. Maybe some one in this forum has some to sell.

Thank you for the reply.I just need the lower part of the fork-some of the articles I have read concerning this say to replace just the seals-would the bush, springs, piston also need replaced?Or shall I replace as is needed? And does the lower fork casing actualy wear out inside?[walls get thin etc].Lots of questions-but I am a newbe-and thats what we do best :) Regards,Johnny
