1981 GL1100i rpm's

Postby sundayracr » Sat May 05, 2012 12:46 am

Greetings
I just bought my Wing last week and have been getting the feel of it. It sounds to me like it is really wrapping up tight at around 65 mph. What is the normal rpm's for that speed in 5th gear? My brother has a 1500 and maybe I'm just trying to compare it to how his sounds.....

I have a 1000 and at 65, just over 60 actual gps speed, it is about 4000. At an actual 70 mph, about 4500.

OK..thanks for the quick response. I checked it again this afternoon and it read between 41 & 42 when the speedo said 65. Guess I'm gonna have to stop comparing mine to brother's bigger bike...lol

Yup...I have both, and the 1100 runs a lot higher RPM than the 1500. The normal engine RPM of an 1100 at highway speed is very close to the redline on the 1500.

When I first got my 1100, I was constantly bogging it down in too high a gear because it didn't feel "right" to rev such a big engine that high. But I eventually realized it's MEANT to do that, and will do it all day long with no problems.
