Engine Swap

Postby PaulIsadora » Tue May 08, 2012 12:31 pm

Is a 1986 Fuel Injected 1200 going to fit into a 1983 Aspenglade? The 1983 Has pitted cylinders. Is this an easy fix? Cost effective? The 1986 motor is listed like this, "'86 fuel injected. Missing one valve cover, and one top mount broken off. No ecu." This would be my first bike, just looking for some guidance.

It won't fit without some modification to the frame. You will also need wiring harnesses, FI computers (ECU), and quite a bit of wiring and sensors. Definitely not an easy fix. Finding an ECU won't be cheap - you'd be better off (financially, and in terms of time and trouble) finding an 1100 engine to use.

Really and truly appreciate the heads up. Maybe just have the existing block machined? Is that a sensible way to handle it?
