Hey everyone. Have a 1983 GL1100 that is backfiring and breaking up BAD at full throttle. Will also backfire at normal riding over 4500 RPM but nowhere near as bad or as much. I have been a auto tech for 20 years and have been playing around with bikes just as long and one thing i have learned is if you don't know ASK! been over wires...coils and so on even swapped them out just to make sure. No go. witch leads me to the carbs. never had anything like these apart. I have had the bike about a year and have put alot of miles on her without a problem. will cruise down the highway at 70 no problem UNTILL i hit that one point then it starts to have a fit. The more throttle the more of a fit it has. maybe junk in the jets or clogged something. If anyone can point me in the right direction or any ideas i would be very greatful!! Thanks

Pull the aircleaner off and stick a inspection mirror in the bottom of the plenum.
Angle and look down the throat at the slide. It should pop up when you rap the throttle. Look at each one for equality. I had just one stuck down. Really affected the HP around 3500 rpm.
