HELP, my tachometer quit working

Postby woolz123 » Thu May 17, 2012 1:43 am

I was out riding today enjoying the beautiful spring day when I noticed that my tachometer was not working. My speedometer does not work so I rely on my Tach to estimate my speed. It was working fine one moment and was reading 0 rpm the next. I ride on country back roads most of the time so my current speed is not so important however when I get out on the highway I sure would like to have some idea how fast I'm going. Does anybody have any idea what happened and what I can do to fix it. I have thought about getting a GPS just so I can use the speed function on it. Thanks for any help.

Its either the cable or gauge-both are easy to replace. The tach cable goes into the engine via the fuel pump.Remove the top bolt and the cable will pull out.I belive two bolts hold the gauge-it is easy to replace ,you can pick them up on e-bay.Regards,Johnyy

I put on a new tachometer cable and all is well. I unscrewed the cable at the tach end first and started up the bike and it was not turning, sure enough it was broken off about 6" below that. Thanks for your help
