Is your 83 a 1100? In 1983, Goldwings were 1100's, not 1200's.

This strikes me even more odder than the year/model (is that a real word?)
My 83 "clock" was a display combination with the radio.I'm not sure that it can operate as a stand alone unit.
If I'm in error...this may help..On the wing's...green in ground...brown is backlight...red is 12 volts...USUALLY.

My present bike (unlessl you tell me if your pride & joy is still for sale !!!) is a 1980 1100 gli
The clock that I bought from ebay is apparently from a 1982 1200 gli
There is a crack on the right hand inner side ofthe fairing so I want to fit the clock there
I hope this solves the mystery

There was no 82 gl1200.
The 1200 wasn't made until 84.
So either it's from a 82 gl1100 or a gl1200.
Perhaps it was a OEM Honda add on stand alone clock? and not specific to any year or model?
If you could post a picture of the front and back and the wires with the color code on them,
Any numbers it may have,like a part number,we might be able to figure it out.

I sold mine too.almost 2 weeks ago.It went to a good guy.

The wires on the clock.Each one should be a different color and may also have a color stripe.

Here are the pictures of the clock he's trying to work with:

It would appear to me that it's a standard 4P Hitachi-type connector. According to the GL1200 1985 Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, this connector is C142, a 4P white connector. It has three connections: Switched +12V (hot in ON, ACC or PARK) that runs the clock (Light green/black wire), +12V (hot at all times) that keeps the clock running when the bike is turned off (red wire), and ground (green wire).

Now I understand.No wires at all.
All we need to do is figure out which pin is what.I'll dig into it.

I'm not having any luck so far.If you have a meter,would you measure the pins on the clock?I'm hoping that 2 of them are shorted together.
Post your measurements please and which pins they are.

Hi there
The problem with the clock is solved
For your general information (it may help someone else)
A=power after switch
B=permanently live +
C=ground\earth -
D=illumination

Once again I thank you very much for your assistance and your willingness to help with the installation of the clock

Regards
Brian :D

P.S. In the year 2014 I can legally import your 1984 Interstate (Patience is a virtue)
All good things come to those who wait!!!!.............I'm waiting

Here is a pic of the connector,
red is live 12 v all the time,
green is ground,
light green with black stripe is 12v in ACC, ON and Park position,
brown/white stripe is lights on.

The previous post is correct, just adding the picture to show the wire colors.
